The Sun!
The sun’s scientific name is sol.

What is the sun?
The sun is a star that is part of our solar system. The sun sits at the centre of the solar system, it is orbited by 8 planets which rotate at the same time. The sun is the biggest part of our solar system, but it’s small compared to other suns in other systems. The sun does not move because it’s a star.

What is the sun made of?
The sun is made of energy. The sun produces energy, called solar energy which can be used to power homes on Earth. The core is the hottest part of the sun, it is 27 million degrees F*/15 million degrees C*. It’s made of Hydrogen gas which is sometimes known as Hg.

What does the sun do?
The sun produces light and heat. In the olden days egyptians used to think that the sun is a god and they would worship it. If the sun wasn’t in the solar system then there would be total darkness and nothing. It takes 8 minutes for the light from the surface of the sun to travel to earth.

Conclusion!

The sun called sol, sits at the center of the solar system and produces light and heat.

Crossing the bridge

On Saturday the 16th of March 1852, there was a farmer and her brown and white cow. The farmer’s name was called Peaches. On their farm in auckland the farmer decided to take her cow bessie to the market.

First the farmer Peaches got her cow and tried to get the cow to move “ come on Bessie.” she said as she was struggling to pull Bessie. Peaches grabbed her coins and she went to William Johnsen the toll keeper. She gave William Johnson 1 coin for her and 1 for her cow.

“Evening Johnson” she said as she was waiting to cross the bridge.

William johnson took the money and said “thank you very much, enjoy your day.” William Johnson used his strength to turn the winch so that the farmer could go through the bridge and go to the market. The farmer and the cow got to the market and the farmer got the bucket and milked the cow to sell the milk to the villagers.

The farmer looked and looked to see if anyone was coming to get some milk. But then she saw one person in line to see if it tasted nice. So she gave the nice lady some milk and she said “ WOOPHE!!!, that's the best milk i've ever tasted.” so she bought some milk and took it to her kids and they shared the milk together. After she left she told everyone about the milk and there was a whole line of people waiting to get some milk. Then he got to the last person and there was no one else in the line. So she packed up all her stuff and took her cow home.

Then they got home and they jumped straight on to their beds and went to sleep.

The history of panmure bridge (WALT write a summary of new information)

Before the Bridge!
In 1845 there was a man named Hemi pepene. Hemi pepene ran a Ferry service that went from panmure to pakuranga. Hemi pepene’s ferry service ran from 1845 to 1850. Hemi pepene made his boat by himself. The boat he made was a punt boat. Hemi pepene was an adopted son of a missionary. Hemi pepene was a successful farmer and he took his boat to sydney to sell his food.

First bridge!
In the 1850’s the tamaki river was considered to be one of the busiest waterways in New Zealand. The auckland council said that whoever had the best plan then they would give the person $50. People that crossed the bridge they had to pay money to a man. The man that did it was named a toll keeper. A toll keeper is a person that opens and closes the bridge. Work on the bridge started on october 1864. The first panmure bridge was a swingbridge. Some swing bridges can go sideways and some can go up. This one it went sideways. Sometimes it takes people a lot of time to open or close. Most cutters, scows and trading vessels were sailing ships that needed great skill to negotiate the small opening with difficult tidal rips.

Second bridge!
By 1913 it was obvious that a new bridge was required. They had to reinforce concrete. Motor vehicles were displacing horses and a wider bridge was desirable.
By 1913 it was obvious that a new bridge would be required. Reinforce concrete. Finally he cut the ribbon and drove a heavy traction engine across the new bridge to prove the ability of the structure to take heavy loads. However by 1930 serious faults in the new bridge were reported when a large crack across the full width of the bridge at the southern end was discovered.

Third bridge!
A new bridge was built in 1959. This latter bridge is a three-lane reinforced high-level bridge, with the centre lane used for westwards traffic flow in the morning and eastwards in the afternoon.

THE GREAT ROLLER COASTER

I could see the couple in front of me talking. The man, Charlie said to his wife Lucy “ Lucy are you scared?.” she replied in a terrified voice “ yes i am scared!.” Charlie shouted “ don't worry Lucy i'm here to protect you.”

The cart that we were on was like a lemon yellow. The cart shunted forward and began its vertical climb up to the top of the peak. The blue stairs next to the noisey black rails made me feel safe. As we were approaching to the summit, we could see the bright kikorangi sky touching the beautiful horizon. When i looked down i could see other rides and i could see cars that looked like tiny ants.

We stopped at the top and we went ZOOMING! Down the peak i was feeling as light as a feather. The roller coaster chugged forward and built movement as the tracks went

CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!. The butterflies in my stomach flew in fast circles round and round and round. When the cart was moving down my stomach felt like it dropped all the way to the ground. My sweaty disgusting hand’s grasped onto the seat belt bar. We twist,we veered and we twireld.

All of a sudden we were inverted upside down and i felt very nauseous and i swallowed my vomit back down. It tasted disgusting and it felt like fire burning my mouth. Then the cart stopped at the station and we had to jump off of the cart and let the others have a turn on the roller coaster.

Golden Child recount

One beautiful sunny morning room 7 was getting prepared to go outside and play a game called golden child. Firstly we did the roll then we lined up in two lines. The girls line was straight and quiet and the boys line was very ciricked and noisey.

We headed off outside to the courts and we had  to vote. There were 2 options to choose. There were boys vs girls or yr5 vs yr6. We all choose boys vs girls. The girls had to shoot first and the boys were running first. The first boy to run was lopi. Lopi made it to the other side and helped the girls to get the ball and pass it back to the other person in line. Some of the girls shot the ball into the hoop and one of them was me.

The boys that had to stop on the sides were saved by the last person which was paula the golden child. Then all the other boys got to go on the other side because of paula. He was to fast for us to shoot into the hoop. We nearly got it in and got them out but we were to late the boys got there before we could get it in. so the boys won and the girls lost.

In the second game the girls were running and the boys were shooting the boys got some of us out but when the golden child ran we got to run with her and we all got to the other side and the girls won the second game of golden child. We came in together in a circle and we lined back up in two straight lines and we went back to class and we were so dehydrated that we went straight into class and grabbed our bottles. THE END

First day at kiwi can

Today, tuesday the 13th room 7 went to kiwi can. There were 2 new people and their names were Miss Latoya and Mr Matt. when we were going there we had to go to the TPS hall. We went there to learn about having a positive relationships with our friends. How we got there was to walk there.

Miss latoya and Mr Matt introduced themselves then we got into the energizer and the energizer was called musical bumps. How you play is that you play music then you walk around or dance and then when the music stops then you have to sit down and the last one sitting down are out.

After those games we learnt the new catchphrase. The catchphrase was kiwi “can says if you argue, sort it out, don't shout and work it out”. When we learnt that we were talking about positive relationships and respect to others.  After that we started to play a game of hangman and guess the picture. So you have to split into 2 groups boys or girls or  however you want to play the game and whoever got the most points you win. When we played the boys won and the girls lost. After that we did GKQ (general knowledge questions).

I thought that the new people werde funny and cool and that it was fun at kiwi can.

what do we remember about recounts

Today we talked about recounts, we had to try and remember what goes in a recount.
Here is what we came up with as a class.

Next we watched a video (Link to the video) and we wrote a recount about it as a class.

Who: the little girl, Annabelle
What: she was happy, she broke her camera, threw in the bin, camera came to life, made a photo of the girl
Where: small town, Mexico

How/Why: she slipped off the pole and dropped the camera
Ideas:
One sunny day
Happy
Picture of a balloon then it popped
Smiling with white teeth
Only Favourite camera

Introduction:
One sunny day Annabelle strolled around her small town, taking pictures of the many beautiful things. Click. Click. Click. She aimed her camera at a light red balloon and it popped just as she hit the shutter button. She smiled with white teeth as the sun rose high in the sky.

Ideas:
Hand slipped off the pole
Swinging, run up to
Fell on her butt,
Big eyes
Camera lense popped out
Laughing - hehe
She sighed
Cuddled the camera, threw it in the bin

She jogged around the town centre, swung around the lamp post giggling and suddenly… KABOOM! Her big eyes opened as she realised she was lying on the ground. Her elbow was scratched and beginning to bleed. Her favourite camera, which she nicknamed Camey was broken next to her on the cobblestones. She sighed deeply. She picked up Camey and cuddled him to her chest, then he fell to the bottom of the bin.

Ideas:
Girl walked up the stairs crying
Shake the binShut his ears,
Click shutter
Pants fell down
Went into garbage
Photo came out of his mouth
Flicked to her foot
She threw it away
Looked?
Closed the door
Has an idea

Annabelle climbed the stairs with tears coming down her face. The bin began shaking, Camey was alive! He tried to get out of the bin, but it ended up tipping over. He crawled out and searched for Annabelle. She was at the top of the stairs, her back to him.  Camey rushed to the stairs and ah! His ears flung open. He pushed his plastic ears closed and kept running. She was almost gone! He pushed down on his shutter button and oh no, not again, his plastic pants fell down. He pulled them up quickly and kept sprinting. A polaroid ejected out of his mouth and he flicked it towards Annabelle. It slipped silently under her foot, but the movement caught her eye. She bent down, picked it up, and slowly let it drop from her hand. She closed the front door behind her and Camey was left outside feeling lonely.

Ideas:
Girl crying, looked up
Surprised
Smile, laugh
Camey smiled
Happy
Button nose

Camey looked down at the disgarded photo; he had an idea. Click, click, click. Photo after photo after photo. He arranged them on the wall in a portrait made with love. Annabelle rested her head on her arms, thinking about her favourite camera ever. Something brushed her arm, she looked up and gasped. A 18m tall portrait of her profile covered the wall of the apartment opposite. She felt surprised and happy. How had this happened? Who had made this gift for her? Then she noticed. Her favourite camera, Camey! How had he gotten up here?!?! She embraced Camey and her smile returned.

She prepared for their next adventure; she picked up Camey, bought a new repair kit and set off for the forest. She wondered to herself, ‘what magical portrait he would come up with next..’
